Grace Missionary Baptist Church

The next few years brought blessings as well as discouragement. However, God had a work in Frankfort, and He began to slowly manifest it by adding members to the mission. In October of 1983, plans began to organize the Grace Baptist Mission into a church. Due to lack of space at the mission building, the organizational service was held at Bryan Station Baptist Church, Lexington, Kentucky, on November 12, 1983. The Grace Baptist Mission became the Grace Baptist Church. Thirty-one Charter members were received into the fellowship of the church that day, however, only 25 members were present. This was due to the fact that five members were moved away and had not yet moved their letters, and one was unable to attend. The church voted to call Lonnie Bennett as their pastor, and a church clerk and treasurer were elected. From the very beginning, the church became active in supporting other mission works. The church's mission efforts have grown over the years and continue today.

On September 9, 1984, Grace Missionary Baptist Church voted to purchase six acres of land at 125 Locust Drive, Frankfort, Kentucky, in the amount of $32, 500. The asking price for the land had been much more (the previous year showed tax assessment of the land at $48, 000). After praying and trusting God to reveal His will in the matter, the church felt led by the Lord to make an offer of $32, 500 to purchase the land. (This was the total sum in the church's bank account.) The Moose Lodge in Indiana, who owned the parcel of the land, sent word that they would accept the offer. There was much thankfulness and rejoicing by the church. On April 26, 1987, the church gave Brother Bennett the authority to sign a contract to have a building erected on the property at 125 Locust Drive. At that time, the church had 22 members. On June 15, 1987, the contractors broke ground, and on October 25, 1987, special services were held to dedicate the building to the Lord.
